I’m very excited to be selected as a finalist in the 2026 Sarajevo Photography festival with my long term project Sisterhood documenting the discriminations against visible Muslim women in French basketball and the impact hijab ban has on their daily lives.
I’m very grateful for the opportunity to show this project widely as the rise of the far right and the normalization of Islamophobia in France is something we need to fight against with all our power.
Because the right to play and the right to self determination are fundamental to gender justice. This ban and the humiliation and exclusion that face hijabi women everyday in France are gender based violence that doesn’t name itself.
In the last 22 years, there’s been 14 texts and more than 40 law drafts on the ban of modest clothing targeting Muslim women in France.
As part of the finalists' exhibition an extract from "Sisterhood", developed in collaboration with basketball players from the collective Basket Pour Toutes, will be displayed at the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Umjetnička galerija Bosne i Hercegovine) from June 1st.
